Luegene (Henderson) Gist

May 4, 1915 ~ August 29, 2017 (age 102) 102 Years Old


Mrs. Luegene Henderson Gist was born in Union County, May 4th, 1915 a daughter of the late Minnie Jeter
and Adolphus Henderson. She attended Poplar Grove School in Santuc,
going to the eighth grade. She was married to the late Jason Gist Sr. To
this union were born 13 children. She and her husband raised crops and
hogs. She began working at Monarch Mill in the 1970s and sitting with
the elderly after the passing of her husband. She joined Bethesda
Baptist after her marriage. Her home church was Jeter Chapel AME Church.
She also is the oldest person in the Santuc Community. She is a member of
Johnson Chapter #305 Order of the Eastern Star and the Homemakers Club.
In 1996 she received her high school diploma under the teaching of Mary
K. Dawkins.
Mrs. Gist has four living sons, McArthur Sr., Franklin Louis, James
Willie and Berry Lee. She has two living daughters, AnnieRuth Thomas and
Dorothy G. Gray. She has one living sister, Bernice Gist; 35
grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, 71 great-great-grandchildren and
a host of great-great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and
many friends.
She was predeceased in death by three sons, David Sr., Samuel Charles
and Jason Jr. and four daughters, Hattie Belle, who died ast year on her
mother's birthday; Minnie Luegene, Mary Ethel and Selena. She was
predeceased by three grandchildren, Danny Summer, Robert "Pee Wee "
Summer and Richard Gist.
